This unusual venue is a museum, opened in 2015, which celebrates the prehistoric stone carvings found in rich abundance on rocks at Gobustan and Gala. It adds medieval gravestones and works produced by sculptor Huseyn Hagvas to give an overview of Azerbaijan’s development of the plastic arts over many millennia. All this is set within a former power station built in 1901 by the Siemens brothers to provide energy supply for the newly developed oil fields in close proximity. Located close to the Caspian Sea just south of the Old City, the venue offers meeting facilities for around 200 people in banquet setup and as many as 400 in cocktail style.
