Spacious caravanserai dining
Baku’s Unesco-listed Old City core is remarkable for its collection of old stone caravanserais, several now used as restaurants. Art Garden is within the single-storey Kichik Karavansaray, an originally 12th century courtyard surrounded by pointed-arch niche-rooms of pale faced stone. The large central space is sheltered by a high, tent-like covering to make a celebratory space for as many as 250 guests serenaded by folk music or live jazz. There’s also room for around 30 in the unique gallery section and several smaller private rooms have been decorated by eminent artists. Food covers all the Azerbaijani classics.
